Ductwork design

Ductwork design

(OP)
I am working on a modification to create removable spool pieces in supply and recirculating duct inside containment at one of our nuclear plants. This is being done to improve our maintenance groups work area and travel path while working on main steam relief valves. Out duct is all welded SS. Justifying a mechanical joint is no problem, but due to material tracking and control AND to minimize time spent in the rad field I am trying locate something similar to a clamshell or Victaulic type of clamp for the new joints. I've searched several hardware websites, but haven't had any luck. Whatever we use, will have to either be seismically qualifed or we can send to lab for qualification. Vendor also needs to be Appendix B supplier.
Any suggestions? Thanks, Jim

RE: Ductwork design

You may try looking into United McGill Corporations information.  They make duct sections, and may have something that would work to connect joints.  Hope you can find what you need.

RE: Ductwork design

I agree with Prodeng.  I have used Ductmate and Spiralmate fittings on ductwork with much success.  They are easy to disassemble and reassemble.  I have used them in areas where equipment needs to be removed once every year or so.  Maintenance likes using them because you don't have to call in a tin knocker to dismantle them and put them back together.  I am not sure what class of seal you are looking for, but I think that connections like these are available in different classes.

I am pretty sure that these fittings are approved by the California State Fire Marshal.  I have always took this to mean that they are approved in seismic locations.  Anyone who has dealt with this agency knows that they are very picky when it comes to approving equipment to be installed in fire rated assemblies.

Not sure if this will help, but I sure hope it does!
