Annotations for stock parts (split bodies)
Annotations for stock parts (split bodies)
(OP)
I am having no luck showing dimensions for stock parts that appear in assemblies on drawings. Even features that are added to the stock parts, such as holes, will not show their dims. The assembly is made from several stock parts that were created from splitting a part into an assembly. I am new to Solidworks after logging over five years with Pro-E. I must say that I am struggling so far. If anyone can help, it would be greatly appreciated.

To me, it sounds like you may be talking about reference dimensions snapped in the context of the assembly. Or maybe you're talking about feature/sketch dimensions made while building the part. Since a drawing is a drawing, you need either to use the autodimension feature (which I never do) or snap the dims on the features withing the context of your drawing file.

There is one component, a nut that is attached to the assembly, that I can show dimensions on. The rest will not show.

Go to feature manager tree and check if the annotations are checked to be shown. Check also if you are not inserting dimensions on a hidded layer.

What I mean by "snapping" a dimension is clicking on the dimension tool within a drawing and then clicking on a diameter (for a hole) or two edges for a dimension. Somewhat like all other 2D CAD packages to dimension a drawing manually. In the past, I've found the autodimensioned drawings to take at least as much work as doing it myself--only without the control of calling out the critical features in such a way as to control tolerance stack.
