tantalum, ceramic, or aluminum electrolytic
tantalum, ceramic, or aluminum electrolytic
(OP)
Being the novice that I am; Here is the question: In designing a microcontroller board for an HC912B32 what is the difference between all the various types of capacitors?
I have two values 10 Uf and .1Uf. The two different cap value supress relatively low and high frequencies of the MCU. How does one select between all the types of capacitors: Aluminum electrolytic, ceramic, tantulum and on and on. Thanks for your know how and time?

RE: tantalum, ceramic, or aluminum electrolytic
I was all set to write a response talking about plates, dielectrics, polarized, tolerances, temperatures, voltages, Class X2, size, price etc and then thought about the old saying of re-inventing the wheel. So a quick look through the encyclopaedia Brinternet came up with these links you may find useful

Hope these help, if not let me know.

and type Capacitor under Product or Service which will return well over 100 capacitor categories. Each category has aligned companies that offer them. One may inquire at appropriate companies, according to your interest, about further information or technical literature/application notes.
