SS 316 PWHT corrosion treatrment

(OP)
Hi all,

We have SS 316 cladded pipe which is welded and PWHT is done.. does the pipe requires a corrosion testing on the inside..

RE: SS 316 PWHT corrosion treatrment

What was done as a PWHT?  What is the condition of the inside surface now?

Corrosion never sleeps, but it can be managed.

RE: SS 316 PWHT corrosion treatrment

If the PWHT was performed to stress relieve the carbon steel, say 620 deg C for an hour or so, then there is a slight risk that you have sensitised the 316L to an unacceptable extent (if it is just 316 then the risk is higher). The welding procedure qualification, including the PWHT, should have been subjected to an ASTM A262 test as a first pass. Now, it will have to be a post-welding qualification test.
