Recommendation for New Group

Recommendation for New Group

Recommendation for New Group

(OP)
I am soliciting suggestions for the appropriateness and usefulness of a new forum under the Aeronautical Engineering banner. "Aircraft Structures Best Practices" or any variation suggested by the board.

Specifically it will be devoted to the Technicial/Mechanic side of structural engineering.

I have 26 years experience in the military and civilian structural world, as a technician and instructor, and have always seen a disconnect between the science of engineering and the practical application of those principles on the hangar floor.

I would like to concentrate on hole preparation, damage evaluation, selection and installation of hardware, general design principles of repairs, tech tips, tools ect. to start.

This could be a bridge to help technicians to better understand the basic engineering of repairs and aid in an engineers understanding the practical application on the hangar floor.

I will let this float for a couple weeks, evaluate the response and either start the group or abandon the idea.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions, recommendations or critique.

RE: Recommendation for New Group

There's a sister org similar to eng-tips.com called tech-tips or similar name.

The suggestion is worthwhile in this forum, too.

RE: Recommendation for New Group

I agree that this would be a welcome addition.  Aircraft Engineering is a broad topic, and breaking out structures as a separate forum is a logical step.

RE: Recommendation for New Group

Rob, would you prefer a new "Group" or a "Forum"?

Maybe a Group would be more appropriate. I wanted to tie it in with the engineering forum, but I am open to suggestions, I don't want to bring a bunch of chaff into this forum.
