API607 Valve qualification by materials

API607 Valve qualification by materials

API607 Valve qualification by materials

(OP)
We have firetested a Carbon Steel valve to the above std. My belief is that testing this valve ONLY qualifies us for valves as listed in ASME B16.34 Group 1 of Table 1. The problem we have is that we have a contract where have supplied Duplex Steel Valves as tested to API607, if my understanding is correct we are required to test a Stainless steel to cover us for this valve material under ASME B16.34 Groups 2 and 3 of Table 1. Basically testing carbon steel only covers us for "ferrite" steels ie Table 1 Group 1.

Can anyone confirm or give advice.

RE: API607 Valve qualification by materials

Looking at clause 4.4.7 of API 607, it would appear that your test on a carbon steel valve covers you for ALL materials, listed including stainless steels, within the other qualification limits listed.
