Set Screw Materials
Set Screw Materials
(OP)
Looking for some technical reference (International standard, ASME, etc) for specifying set screw material.
Good practice is for the hardness and material of the set screw to exceed the shaft, so that the set screw bites into the shaft.
Today we are using a 400sst shaft and 400sst set screw. I want to change to a harder material for the screw and need this reference to avoid a whole bunch of verification testing.
Thanks

RE: Set Screw Materials
Pinch bolts, shrink rings, expansion rings, tapered bushings, even many grades of Loctite work better.
