Can anyone please advise how to determine what test fluid should be used to test the set pressure on a PSV. Any help or reference to standards would be appreciated.

RE: PSV set pressure test fluid

Good afternoon,

Check out API RP 527 - I believe that it deals with the testing of relief valves, designed as per API RP 520 and API RP 521.

Test media for thermal relief valve

thanks for that thread PAN... really appreciated. the application concerned isn't thermal relief but your thread has really clarified things a lot.

the manufacturer of the valve (liquid service) has tested using Nitrogen and the end user has queried this. manufacturer response was "we always test these valves in this way and have done so for xx years". when pressed, there was no reference to any standards and that concerned me even though the manufacturer is a recognised leader.

thanks :)
