The Importance of Correct Punctuation

The Importance of Correct Punctuation

The Importance of Correct Punctuation

(OP)
I came across the following examples of a "Dear John" letter - makes you realise the importance of proper use of punctuation.

Version 1:

Dear John,

I want a man who knows what love is all about. You are generous, kind, thoughtful. People who are not like you admit to being useless and inferior. You have ruined me for other men. I yearn for you. I have no feelings whatsoever when we're apart. I can be forever happy - will you let me be yours?

Gloria

Version 2:

Dear John,

I want a man who knows what love is. All about you are generous, kind, thoughtful people who are not like you. Admit to being useless and inferior. You have ruined me. For other men I yearn; for you I have no feelings whatsoever. When we're apart, I can be forever happy - will you let me be?

Yours,
Gloria

RE: The Importance of Correct Punctuation

Who is Gloria?

RE: The Importance of Correct Punctuation

The later one, but still more important to know is, who are those other men.

Ciao.

RE: The Importance of Correct Punctuation

I have read ( http://www.nationmaster.com/encyclopedia/Space-(punctuation) ) that ancient greek and roman scripts were written without punctuation, even without space between words. Space and other punctuation marks came into use the last 1300 years.

There is a famous saying from Pythia: You will leave you will return not you will die in the battle.

RE: The Importance of Correct Punctuation

That that is is that that is not is not is that it it is

And if I remember, tomorrow I'll punctuate it.

I still like "Eats Shoots & Leaves" by Lynn Truss.

It has been discussed at length here in this Forum.

Buy a dictionary, keep it nearby and USE it. Webster's New World Dictionary of American English is recommended, and Webster's Collegiate Dictionary.

RE: The Importance of Correct Punctuation

the punctuation demo I'd heard was
"Woman without her man is nothing"  (punctuate to suit)

RE: The Importance of Correct Punctuation

Woman, without her man, is nothing,  male punctuation
Woman, with out her, man is nothing, female punctuation

RE: The Importance of Correct Punctuation

This reminds me of a silly story, I was told during my english grammar classes, about a jailor receiving telegraphic message to release a condemned prisoner.

Original message was

Kill him not, leave him.

Telegraphical error by the operator

Kill him, not leave him.

Regards,

That, that is, is.
That, that is not, is not.
Is that it?
It is!
