POPEYE

POPEYE

(OP)

"I stands all I can stands, I can't stands no more."
     Popeye

Me too. I have endured the flagrant mis-use of 'advi C e' and 'advi S e' for a long time on this web-site.

Advice is a noun. It does not indicate action. It is an object.
Advise is a verb. It does indicate action. A person may be advised, but cannot be 'adviced'.

Please pay attention to this, and try to use the words correctly. I will suffer less. Thank you.

Buy a dictionary, keep it nearby and USE it. Webster's New World Dictionary of American English is recommended, and Webster's Collegiate Dictionary.

Your request has been taken under advizement.

Keep taking the medication as adviced.

& all the best.

RE: POPEYE

Ditto all "-ice" nouns and the equivalent "-ise" verbs, such as licence and others that don't immediately spring to mind.

Ditto for misuse of "ditto" (just so nobody beats me to it!)

Should be
"I stands all I can stands, I can stands no more"

RE: POPEYE

...or the "-ize" verbs, in the States.

RE: POPEYE

Should we practice or practise what you say?

RE: POPEYE

I need advice.  Please advise.

RE: POPEYE

Jimbo:

Misuse or mis-use can be used as a verb with no fear of misuse but I'm not sure that the use of mis-use as a noun is not a misuse.

Now I'm conf-used.

You better tell Popeye. That's what I heard him say.

RE: POPEYE

After the spinach is digested

RE: POPEYE

I always thought it odd Popeye only had to ingest the spinach and never wait for the vitamines to get processed. So to speak. Bang he was, well Popeye!!!!
BTW: Fresh is head over heels better than canned.
