Aluminum, Laser Welding versus Dip Brazing

Aluminum, Laser Welding versus Dip Brazing

Aluminum, Laser Welding versus Dip Brazing

(OP)
I need to convince a customer that a laser welded joint is as strong as or stronger than a dip brazed joint. We are joining two aluminum parts and I have flexability in terms of the alloys depending on which method is used. Does anyone know of any documentation comparing brazing versus welding for aluminum?

RE: Aluminum, Laser Welding versus Dip Brazing

I would think that the joint configuration is a determining factor, as would be the nature of the applied loading.

MintJulep is correct. The choice of joining aluminum parts comes down to application and cost. What would make sense for you is to fabricate a prototype - one using laser and one using dip brazing.

Perform some tensile tests and destructive examination to answer the question, which process would be better.
