Surface grinding tool steels

I often grind a hardened tool steel designated CPM-4, can someone please tell me what grit, bond etc. is best with a 1.5 X 12" wheel.

RE: Surface grinding tool steels

Your best bet is to get with your wheel supplier's tech rep and discuss your requirements.  If you talk on the phone, best starting approach,  have all the information you can muster, machine name and type, desired finish of part , amount of metal to remove, coolant type, how many parts, and so on.

There are just too many variables for a short answer.

RE: Surface grinding tool steels

Voyager687,

I have a coworker who is a CNC Programmer/Toolmaker.  For about 6 years, he did mostly seating of molds and can tell me what kind of grind wheel is on the machine from literally 15ft.

If you supply us the info unclesyd suggested on this thread, I will ask Steve on Monday.  Maybe Steve can bolster/corroborate/tweak your suppliers recommendation.
