Wind uplift calculations

What is the formula to determine the uplift load on a 4x4 post?  Lets say it is in a 80mph zone and it is a 12'x12' open shelter w/ 4x4 posts at each corner, what is the uplift for each column?

RE: Wind uplift calculations

Hello Jayhawk1988

Can you explain better, three aspects:
1. How those 4 posts are fixed to the ground or some platform?
2. What is its relative position/distance?
3. For what do you want to determine the uplift load? For estatic or dynamic/vibrational considerations, (or both). What is your main concern?

i have similar question on wind up lift. can any one suggest where can i find wind loads codes and how to estimate the up lift for shelters open and vary in hights?
thank you

To Orbit, and to the rest of you.  I got what I needed when I posted my question back in September.  I needed to calculate the uplift loads to determine the Simpson hold down straps/column caps to use.  The information provided by dougantholz on September 19, 2001 was what I used.  Thanks.

RE: Wind uplift calculations

Hello Jayhawk1988

Why don't you share that information/solution with us? What these foruns are for ?
To do exactly that, to share the main conclusions, don't need to go into details.
Cheers!
