psv on oil-gas separators

psv on oil-gas separators

(OP)
hello everyone,

I have to size a safety valve for a new wellhead separator which is to be added to a set of separators in an existing surface production unit.

my calculations for orifice size determination has been based on a blocked outlet case. compared to the orifice size of the psv's already installed on existing separators (4-11 sq-in), the orifice size that i have obtained using API520 formulas is very small (0.44 in2).

I have also done the calculations for a fire case having blocked outlets on the vessel but the size has not changed significantly. can anyone give a hint?

tanks.
