does anyone have an idea of how to measure flatness, parallelism and thickness with a non contact measuring device.   Tolerance is +/-.005 inches.   Measurement range to be .060 inches.

These plates are small 6 x 9 and have lots of Z axis surface variation.  The customer would like a Tir readout but may settle for 9 points of measurement on the surface of the part.

Sorry,  6 x 9 inches.   The panels must be molded .075 to .080 inches.  We need to check the thickness at 5 locations.   The measurement pattern would be an "X".  Sensors at the corners and one in the center of the part.

A laser mike by Pratt & whitney, later " Honeywell" or may be sold under another name now was used for non-contact measurement of thickness of pin-gauges. I am sure a vendor of a similar dveice must have developed an application that should be suitable to your case. " Quality" magazine publishes a Buyers guide annually, you may want to check with them also.

Wyko, Dektak and a number of other manufacturers produce scanning optical profilometers with software for calculating the both global and local roughness and flatness.

Hi,

I do not have too much time to answer this but suggest you look at LEICA instruments website - they manufacture high precision Laser machines which are used to model surfaces etc accurately - see their high precision instruments-if need more information end a reply and I shall follow up on Threadminder.
