RE: 16" API 10000 Ball Valve seal design

In API 6A Slab Gate Valves 'O' Ring seals are generally used upto 5000 psi as secondary seals with primary metal to metal seal. However, it is general practice to limit the bare 'O' Ring seals upto 2000 psi and beyond this and upto 5000 psi, it is common to use 'O'Rings with metal back up rings. Above this, only metal to metal seals have been fount to be appropriate and reliable. Normally, a metal 'C' ring is employed in such designs. It would be ideal to consult your seal vendor for such applications. i have come across some vendors like Parker, Advanced Sealing Products (Belgium) etc., who are quite helpful in offering sealing solutions.
