Whether there is an information, what minimal configuration there should be a computer for work in UG. The processor, what memory and how many, video, what certificated the driver on video.

RE: Computer configuration for UG

I dont really know much about UG yet, but my computer is running, 3Ghz Pentium 4 800FSB HT, 4.5 GB of fast memory, and a 128 ASUS NVIDIA Graphics card, and UG run's perfectly. I have had it crash once though, but only once. My machine is mainly set up for CFD as i do ALOT of that. You probably wont need as near enough memory for UG.

Good, and what version of NVIDIA drivers?

RE: Computer configuration for UG

Whatever UG supports is what you want to use.  Go here & get familiar with it...it's an invaluable resource for self-help:

RE: Computer configuration for UG

UG recently did a promotion with the following specs:

Dell Precision 370: Pentium IV 3.0 GHz
                    2 GB RAM
                    nVidia 1300 graphics card
                    80 GB SATA Hard Drive
                    CDRW

We picked up one which has worked well so far.  Generally, we model castings and our file sizes run 4-20 MB by the time all the blends are in place.

Our thinking was that UG would only promote a system if there was confidence in how well it worked with UG.  We are not disappointed.

RE: Computer configuration for UG

It's not a question of what they promote, it's a matter of what they will support.  If you have a problem & you're not using supported hardware or software, you may be digging your own grave...granted, the chances are slim that you'll have a problem, but they're slim for winning the powerball lottery too...

RE: Computer configuration for UG

You don't have to buy  "exactly what EDS is supporting" hardware exactly. Buy name brand/ quality components and UG will work fine. Use only Intel processor and name brand motherboards and memory combinations. Contrary to popular belief (from non-users) UG is very modest in its cpu, graphics, and memory requirements compared to say Catia or Pro/E.

I using a 2.4mhz P4 on an ABIT motherboard with 1/2 gig of Kingston. I also have an ultra 160 scsi drive though I think the new IDE's work just fine now. My video card is an Nvidia with 128mgs ram. It works fine.

I'm an nc programmer who does fairly large aircraft parts. The only thing I say is get maybe a 3.0mhz+ cpu and 1 gig of ram and you'll be fine.

Oh yea, definately get a namebrand Nvidia graphics card. Maybe a 256mhz just for the future.
