Data Collection

Data Collection

(OP)
I am investagating data collection for the plant floor.  We currently have over 300 robotic welding cells and 25 stamping presses.  I would like to collect and save production data.  I would like suggestions on whatpeople have and are using to pull this data fromplant floor PLC's and save into a database for web based viewing from plant intranet.
Thanks

RE: Data Collection

Just my preference and really only a preference due to convenience and experience with system. I would use LOOKOUT version 6I from National Instruments. It is a nice scada system that is easy to use and you have get results going in 2 hours or less. It is complete and, I think, comapares well with alternate offerings. You don't need a plc in this case to achieve your end, but, I would use a Direct Logic DL205 if I wanted to use the server that Lookout has! It is easy to use and we use it in 12 machine plastics departments to following and monitor the machine states and log to Citedal database. Just suggestions, not dogma!!

RE: Data Collection

Hello Occurens:

I have to ask.  What data do you want to collect?  Do you want to automatiaclly perform system software backups?  OEE info, basic part counts.

RE: Data Collection

We use Wonderware from Intouch for our data collection.  Collecting things like:  press forces, torque and angle from our nutrunners, distances, flow rates, reject types, downtime, temperatures, times, etc.  We use AB's DH+ for communication.  All data comes directly from the plc through the DH+ network to pc that is near the place we want to collect the data.  We may have several DH+ networks tied into one pc.  The pc's are on the plant network and pass that information along to the server.

Paul, Steve, and skills.. Thanks for your replies.  I have downloaded the Lookout software and also currently meeting with Wonderware people.  I also have a meeting this week with the MDT Autosave software rep.  We use all Omron PLC's in this facility. I am currently setting up a small independant network out on plant floor so that I can test and evaluate the different packages using real time data.
Thanks Again...
