Machining CFC (Carbon Fibre Composite)

Machining CFC (Carbon Fibre Composite)

Machining CFC (Carbon Fibre Composite)

(OP)
I'm looking information about CFC(Carbon Fibre Composite):

1. Cutting speed parameters for drilling and milling(trimming).
2.The best cutting tools
3.Machinability
4.CFC specifications

May you please help me or do you know links, contact or scienze magazines?

Thanks for your time.

bye

RE: Machining CFC (Carbon Fibre Composite)

I have machined this before.

Believe it or not pcd works as long as the heat is kept low.  Uncoated carbide wears quickly as cfc is abrasive.

Run dry at around 100m/min VC

RE: Machining CFC (Carbon Fibre Composite)

I've machined round fiberglass booms, up to 14" diameter x 1 1/4" wall, which exihibit many of the same problems of graphite. The best insert is diamond tipped with postive rake run dry. The machines which we used were not adjustable speed and with different diameters the sfpm varied.

RE: Machining CFC (Carbon Fibre Composite)

I work as a application engineer for pcd machining. You can use diamond tools-turning and milling. Surface meter/min 300-2000, feed rate .05-.3mm/rev and .1-3.0mm Depth of cut. Go to Abrasivesnet.com and look through the case histories. Let me know if you need more info.

RE: Machining CFC (Carbon Fibre Composite)

I should have stated that I machined aircraft braking discs which would be a high end material hence the low cutting speed, we were milling the discs rather than single point turning, we did this in UK.
