SPLIT-PART Command

SPLIT-PART Command

SPLIT-PART Command

(OP)
Ive just come across a need to split a part I did a few weeks ago, for my Engineer. It's a cubical block, with slots and finite-depth holes in the top face, and the same in the bottom face. He wants to create 2 distinct parts from the cube I gave him.

In ACAD, I'd assign a UCS at the desired distance, and split the part, retaining both halves. I'm aware of a split-part command in S-E, but am not yet familiar with it, and I'd like to mimize the "hunting" as I'm standing in front of him at his PC.

Any Suggestions?

Thanks-

C. Fee

RE: SPLIT-PART Command

Hi,

Open your model. Make sure a plane or a surface exists where you want to divide the part. Click the 'divide part' command in the surfacing toolbar (at the bottom). First step: select the dividing plane or surface; 2nd step: choose which side becomes a new file. Then click 'next cut' to cut the remaining again (1st and 2nd steps) or 'Finish' if the part should only be divided in two parts. In the window that opens, give names to the 2 new files; 'select all' at the bottom and 'save selected files'. click 'OK' : you're done.

You have a now a parent part driving two child parts. You can break the associativity if you want but it will make it harder to edit the ex-child files.

As an alternative, use 'save as copy' twice to create two exact copies of your current file. Then, a cutout removing half the part on one side can be added to the 1st copy. And a cutout removing the opposite side can be added to the 2nd copy. The original can then be archived, there is no link.
