Adaptive coils in IV9?

Adaptive coils in IV9?

Adaptive coils in IV9?

(OP)
Hello fellow wizzkids,

Is it possible to make coils adaptive? I tried several methods with adaptive workplanes, equations etc. But it seems to be out of my leaugue this time.

RE: Adaptive coils in IV9?

check out either frequently asked questions or much older threads.  im sure ive seen a procedure but never tried, would be interested how you get on

RE: Adaptive coils in IV9?

Once you have adaptive workplane, create a sketch (for reference only) with line collinear to workplane imprint, add driven dimension from other workplane (where your coil starts), use this dimension in coil dialogue box for length of the coil.

Thanks a lot alpharam.

Absolutely working.

gib2j, I searched for all faq's and threads but finally gave up the search.

RE: Adaptive coils in IV9?

im being thick, could you explain in a bit more detail

thanks

RE: Adaptive coils in IV9?

1.    Create 2 parallel work planes (A, B), make one of them adaptive.
2.    Create perpendicular workplane (C).
3.    Enter sketch environment, use C for sketch plane, and create imprints of A and B on C using project geometry function.
4.    Draw line (D) collinear to the imprint of A, make it construction line.
5.    Connect imprint of B and the line with dimension (Driven dimension shall be your only possibility).
6.    Still in sketch environment, create construction line perpendicular to D for coil axis.
7.    Draw circle for spring wire diameter, make it tangent either to imprint of A or B. The circle shall be between 2 imprints.
8.    Dimension as required.
9.    Exit sketch.
10.    Use coil function, choose the circle for profile and the axis.
11.    Go to “coil size” tab, choose “revolution and height” or “pitch and height”, highlight any default height appearing, and click on the driven dimension. Dimension number (dXX) shall appear in the height field.
12.    Make other selections as required.
13.    Press “OK”.
14.    Exit part.
15.    Import part in your assembly. Make it adaptive.
16.    Constrain both planes A and B as required.
17.    When driving your constraints, select “Drive Adaptivity” radio button.
18.    It MUST work by now :).

RE: Adaptive coils in IV9?

very nice thanks
