Female fastener
(OP)
Male and female parts. Do we have any other word or phrase that comes close by and is less suggestive?
Ciao.

I think with fasteners, male/female is totally acceptable. But I suppose I can see a need for another phrase to use if you had to translate these features into another language. Then perhaps internal/external would be acceptable.
Speaking of "less suggestive"... my father had that Father-Son talk with me when I was 14. He used the terms "Tab A" and "Slot B" to describe the human anatomy.

But as a child I used to play with cardboard cut-outs that you could form into cabins, stores, carriages, tents, etc. These were luch boxes that I would get at a particular restaurant, and they had a western theme to them (collect the whole set!). The instructions were written to say "insert Tab A into Slot B" and similiar things. I think he just was trying to use terms that I would understand at the time.
