"Read only" assembly?

"Read only" assembly?

"Read only" assembly?

(OP)
A prospective customer of ours has a possible OEM application for one of our products and has requested a solid model for use in a presentation. Since we have no legal arrangement with these people, we obviously can't just send them a solid model. Is there a way that we can "sabotage" an assembly so it represents the original size and shape of the assembly, but doesn't include any of the inner parts or details? We tried saving the assembly as a part file, but we still get a very large file and it appears that the individual parts are still intact.

RE: "Read only" assembly?

When you 'save as' a part file, you can choose to convert only the exterior faces of your assembly. You could then take the new part file you've create and save it as an iges or step if your customer has some other cad package.
Before you send it out, open it yourself to see if this is the information you want your customer to have.

I do it the same as NHPilot. Works well.

That worked. I suppressed as many internal parts in the assembly as I could and saved it as a part file with the external faces box checked.

Thanks,

Tom

Or you could create an eDrawing.
