generator pole to pole connection

(OP)
Good day

One of our generator rotors have a cracked pole to pole connection.

1.What does the pole to pole connection do?
2.What are the consequences/risks of this?
3.Is there any way that we can monitor this?
4.Will this effect the performance of the generator?

Thanks in advance for any advice.

RE: generator pole to pole connection

The pole to pole connection is the jumper between the 2 rotor poles.  If it fails it will short out the rotor.  If the resistance of the connection goes up then you will see a change in performance.  I would not monitor it but repair it ASAP.

RE: generator pole to pole connection

Th epole to pole connections are subjected to centrifugal forces during unit operation. Normally the rotor would expand up to 300 thou due to this centrifugal forces. It is therefore important that the pole to pole connections have enough flexibility to avoid any undue stresses which may end up in damage to the connections.

Wow flash from the past.  If majuba is in the house let us know how it went.  I don't know why it wouldn't have been fixed by now.
