Warping Constant Equations

Warping Constant Equations

(OP)
Does anyone know how to calculation the warping constant (Cw) for a W beam with a channel cap?  This is regards to lateral torisional bending.  Does anyone also know how to calculate St. Venents torsional constant?

RE: Warping Constant Equations

AISC design Guide 9, Torsional Analysis of structural steel members is an excellent dissertation of the design of torsion.

Example 5.7 in the DG 9 deals with crane runway girder (beam with cap channel) that I think is very similar to your situation.

I recommend that you get a copy of DG 9. You can buy one from AISC or down load direct from their web site  www.aisc.org (free for member).  I am pretty sure it will help you.

RE: Warping Constant Equations

I agree with Lutfi, DG 9 is worth the money.
