What standardsused to test control valves ? ASME Section 8 or B31.3
(OP)
We are in the Canadian Registration Number registration process. Because the CRN asked us to provide calculation on our fittings (Oil Wells) products; measuring devices: pressure gauges, level gauges, level or pressure transmitters. We would like to ask your expertise or experience how to calculate for the strength of material, I assume that involves with Mininum Tensile and Mininum Yield. Can someone please help or refer to a website that helps to explain the requirements. We are currently having no engineer on our staff, our products was made from reverse engineering and field experience. Again, thank you so much for your valuable time and concern.

RE: What standardsused to test control valves ? ASME Section 8 or B31.3
Pressure/tempearture standard is ASME B16.34.(steel valves), It closely parallels B16.5
B31.1 is a governing standard for both of the referenced ASME standards (Formerly ANSI).

about control valve seat leakage test standards, please take a look at Thread408-103944 (and at the other ones mentioned in my reply of October 1st, 2004).
Regarding ASME B16.34, it applies to "forged, cast and fabricated flanged, threaded and welding end, and wafer or flangeless valves of steel, nickel-base alloys and other alloys" up to 24" NPS.
Hope this helps, 'NGL

for your information, here are some more references and examples within this Forum:
- Thread408-96775: shell thickness calculation for a small diameter valve body;
- Thread408-68611: European valve design (and verification) standards;
- Thread404-9748: flange calculations for titanium valves.

Thank you so much for your valuable consultation, I am contacting the ABSA today, they referred me to CSA, CSA required ASME section 8, div. 1, UG27 and UG34. Does it have to be ASME or can I use any suggested standards that applied our company's products? Again, this is to obtain the Canadian Registration Number approval.

If you are referring to the ASME Boiler & PV Code, Section 8 etc., that code specifically states that it is not intended for use on valves...
