Engineering training & experience

(OP)
I'm a new and young mechanichal engineer working for a power generation company:thermal and hydro. At present i'm going through a 2 year graduate learnership programme. What I would like is some direction in terms of good books or other forms of proven documentation where I can find a few calculations, a lot of practical insight and capabilities that a power plant engineer should develop.

RE: Engineering training & experience

I think there is a power plant engineer handbook available.

RE: Engineering training & experience

Books are good, but I'd not suggest books as the best place for practical knowledge.  I'd suggest that you read threads here, read trade magazines, manufacturers literature and most importantly, talk to people with more experience than you.  You'll find in many cases the solution to a problem may be in who you know, not what you know.

RE: Engineering training & experience

Simboti, I see that you have just graduated from school where I presume you should have read a lot of material. Now that you are in Industry, this is your best time to translate all those theories into practice by being personally involved in as much as there is practically. I agree with TMD that a good start for you might be in who you know (especially a Mentor)because if you concentrate in reading too much at this early stage, you might go astray for you might not know or might be misled on what to read.
