Creating DWG's from Solid Edge

Creating DWG's from Solid Edge

Creating DWG's from Solid Edge

(OP)
Hello,

I am using Solid Edge V15 to design machinery for my company.  We are having problems converting SE drafts into DWG’s.  We need a fully functional DWG and we aren’t getting one.

There are all kinds of problems (here are a few):
-If the Draft is multiply sheets our title block will say SHEET 1 OF 3 and so on.  This information does not get passed on to the DWG.
-Many of our Symbols aren’t getting passed on.
-Dimensions are not referenced the same when saved in DWG format.
-AutoCad won’t recognize the scale of the drawing.

Only the design engineers have Solid Edge.  All of the Solid Edge Drafts have to be converted to DWG’s so our project engineers, machinists and maintenance men can access the drawings.  My company has too many computers all over western hemisphere to have the SE Viewer installed on all of the computers.  Plus the SE Viewer only lets the user “view” the drawing.  In some cases our employees have to get additional dimensions or manipulate the drawing.  SE Viewer doesn’t let a user do that.

Has anyone else had problems converting SE Drafts to DWG’s?

Brendan

RE: Creating DWG's from Solid Edge

No, but I DID have to go into each sheet (tab), and save-as to dwg with the appropriate output filename. When you select DWG as your output file type, be sure to click on "[OPTIONS]" to select the version of ACAD closest to your needs.

There are conversion settings, which I didn't play with; I just accepted defaults. I'm pretty sure however, that you can set output scale to units you are using.

Post back with results of efforts. Thanks, and

Good Luck!

RE: Creating DWG's from Solid Edge

I assume the drawing border etc is on the background sheet.
Open the draft file to convert and select FILE > SAVE AS
On the dialog change the 'Save as type' to AutoCad.
Hit the 'OPTIONS' button and then on the next dialog check the 'Translate background sheet on export' option.
Hit finish.
You will have to do each sheet in turn, but just add 'Sheet1' etc to the save as filename.

To get symbols to display correctly try copying the Solid Edge fonts from the c:\windows\fonts folder on the Solid Edge computer to each computer that uses AutoCad.
(Put them in the same folder on the destination computer or wherever AutoCad puts it's fonts). The fonts you require all start Solid Edge Ansi , or Solid Edge Iso.
There should be about 14 in total.
See if that works - I have done it in the past.
