The part is saved anyway

The part is saved anyway

(OP)
I am fairly new to Solid works, my previous history has been with Solid Edge. So excuse me if I am asking an obvious question.
Why when in an assembly and I edit a part, either in the assembly or part environment and I make changes I dont want. I select the dont save option when leaving the editor but the changes retained.

I am aware that I should use the UNDO function but if you have made a lot of changes it is simpler to close the part editing session.

The only way I have found is to close the assembly potentially loosing other desired changes.

RE: The part is saved anyway

If the part is referenced by an assembly that you have open, then the part is kept open by the assembly, even if you don't have it open as a separate file.

Once you close the part document, yo uneed to reload the part in the assembly. Right-click on the part in the assembly, and you should find the option to reload it on the context menu. It will ask you a question or two, but you will know what you want to do by then.

Thanks. It all seems to work as you say.
(it all seems a little bit unnecessary)
