Maching in NX2 with .STL

Maching in NX2 with .STL

Maching in NX2 with .STL

(OP)
Still pretty new with UG especially with the manufacturing end of it
Looking to machine some parts using .stl solids files generated with solidworks.
Can someone give me a clue on where to start?
I am familar with using UG to do machining but i have never used an .stl as the start point.
I can't select any of the features while in the manufacting mode, is it similar to mastercam in that i need to use some surface tools to define the part?
thanks

RE: Maching in NX2 with .STL

An STL model is a faceted representation of a solid model, which probably isn't the most desirable type of model for machining purposes.  It's also the reason why you can't select any faces or surfaces....because there aren't any, per se.  If you have the capability to make a STEP or IGES file in Solidworks, I'd use that before an STL file.

If the STL is the only route, you're probably going to have to recreate the surfaces somehow.

I would suggest using Parasolid between SoliWorks and UG.
They both use same kernel.
