Unable to select sketch

Unable to select sketch

(OP)
I have a drawing which has a assy procedure that was generated in Word. Unfortunately at this company certain note numbers must must be inside a triangle. What I have been doing is making a sketch of a triangle and moving it to encircle the note number.

I needed to make changes in the Word document, so therefore the triangle was no longer in the correct location. I moved the inserted document which allowed me to select the triangle and move it elsewere on the drawing. I reposition the Word document. Now I can not select the triangle. It is not located within any other view border, nor is it within the document window. I have tried Selection filters, but nothing will allow me to select the triangle. I can select everthing else but not that. I either need to move it or delete it.

Can anyone offer any solution?

RE: Unable to select sketch

You must activate either a view or a the sheet. It is locked to one of those.

RMB/"Lock "sheet" or "view" Focus"

If you are talking about making a sketch triangle in SW and placing a number inside of that triangle separately, then your doing that incorrectly.

Start a new annotation, put your text in there, Under "Borders" in the Property Manager click the down arrow. This will give you a triangle.

RE: Unable to select sketch

Can you not copy / paste the Word notes into a Solidworks note. Solidworks has symbols for notes with triangles, circles, etc..

RE: Unable to select sketch

Scott, he only wants the triangle around the note number I believe. If he uses a Solidworks note, he can insert a number triangle from the custom symbols.

Scott,
I tried what you said to put a border around a single character. Yes that works in a note that has been created in Solidworks. But how about in a Word file that has been pasted into the drawing?

Thanks for your help,

RE: Unable to select sketch

gmarken ... You can create the triangle in the Word document, using the Autoshape feature in the Draw toolbar.
After creating it, drag & drop it over the text, then use the Order function (under a RMB on the triangle) to place it behind the text.

RE: Unable to select sketch

Thank you. I was trying to use the Autoshapes this morning. However I was adding text inside the triangle and placing that. I was not having any success in aligning that to the rest of the text. Also scale of the triangle and text size were a problem. I will try to do as you say instead.

RE: Unable to select sketch

1) Type & format the text first.
2) Switch off the Snap objects to grid (Holding down the ALT key when placing the triangle has the same effect)
3) Create the triangle.
4) RMB the triangle, select Order > Send behind text
5) Adjust the size & placement of the triangle to suit.
6) Use "Copy & Paste" to create other instances of the triangle.
