Question regarding "escape" vs. "back up"

Question regarding "escape" vs. "back up"

Question regarding "escape" vs. "back up"

(OP)
In Cadkey, I could hit F10 and back up if I selected the wrong entity. Is there a way of doing this in Solidworks? I have to hit escape, then select the command again, then try to select the correct entity. Not a big deal, but innefficient.

RE: Question regarding "escape" vs. "back up"

While holding Ctrl key select the entity again. This will deselect it...
If there is a back up function in SWX I'm not aware of it.

I hope my answer was sufficient

Another scenario is checking distances between numerous entities. You pick on the "measuring tape" click the first two entities, then hit escape, click on the measuring tape again, etc... Very cumbersome.
Also, when drawing a couple of centerlines. It automatically defaults to a string of lines, which I have never needed. Again, hit escape, click on centerline icon again...
Guess we need to steer this topic into an enhancement request.

RE: Question regarding "escape" vs. "back up"

No need for enhancement request!

1) After using "measuring tape", RMB anywhere in the sketch & select Clear selections. This resets the measure dialogue box ready for next set of selections.

2) When drawing lines or centrelines, click once to start the line, click once again to select the second & subsequent points of the line ... then double-click to end the line. This resets the cursor to start a another seperate line.

Problem with that is, if you're zoomed in to where the model takes the whole screen, there is no place to double click without clicking on geometry and having solidworks tell you "Invalid entity combination" or something like that.

You have that much geometry to fill the screen? Or do you mean other solid features from the part or other parts. If it's the latter, the double click will still work even if it's on a face of a part. An alternative is to "click-hold-drag-and-drop" to create a single line.

"if you're zoomed in"
Double-clicking on a face of a solid tries to select that face for dimensioning, or whatever command you're doing.
Anyways, This is just something that is different than I'm used to, and I can't find an efficient way around it.

RE: Question regarding "escape" vs. "back up"

When did we start discussing dimensioning?

Measuring & drawing lines were your original problem areas, and you now have the correct methods for working with those. When sketching lines, double-clicking does not select the face of a solid and when dimensioning, a double click need not be used.

What are you trying to dimension?

i meant measuring... Sorry.

RE: Question regarding "escape" vs. "back up"

What version of SW are you using? If I remember correctly, SW03 did try to select the face of a solid.

SW05

RE: Question regarding "escape" vs. "back up"

Oh, I am stuck with SW04, so cannot see if the solutions I offered work in SW05. Are they working for you?
