VPI vs dip & bake

VPI vs dip & bake

(OP)
Hello,
I'm working on getting a small generator repaired and would like some information on the pros and cons of the stator being dipped & baked or VPI treatment.
Thank You

RE: VPI vs dip & bake

VPI is a more complete method for insulating.  the vacuum process helps ensure insulation reaches many places dip & bake may not.  the coverage is also more uniform with less over-accumulation of "laquer" and shortens the drying time.

Thank You, How does the VPI affect future repairs such as wedging or stator repairs?

RE: VPI vs dip & bake

less of a mess.  if the repairs are minor you can re-coat only the repaired areas with laquer.

however, if you are having continual problems with the wedges slipping or other repairs you need to look at the root cause and forget about continual repairs.

vibration monitoring is one tool that would help.
