Does any one in the group had an experience using a fabric type of expansion joint in thier projects? What are the dis advantages of such type? is this capable enough to withstand high temp. and high pressure service?
Thanks in advance...

Happy holidays to all!!

RE: Fabric type Expansion Joint

They are generally used for high temperature and VERY low pressure applications like ducting systems where pressures are measured in inches of water column.  I think about 5psi is going to be an absolute maximum for a fabric joint, depending on the size you need.

If you need high temperature and pressure, you're pretty much limited to a metal bellows design.

RE: Fabric type Expansion Joint

Here is one very similar to 2 that we use on a waste heat boiler between the generating section and economizer section.
The design conditions are essentially the same. Not shown very well in the photo is the internal shield/liner that helps protect the fabric blast from the heat. Our joints last about ten years before replacement is required.
