Air filter capacity/sizing

Air filter capacity/sizing

Air filter capacity/sizing

(OP)
I have just started design of an injection molded intake system for a small Yanmar diesel (L48, 211cc, 4 stroke, 4.7hp, 3600rpm).  The main goal of this intake is noise reduction, secondary is light weight.
I would like to start by choosing a filter, then I'll design around that.  Anyone have any suggestions for companies or websites that can help in choosing an appropriate filter?  Also, if anyone could share calculations for filter capacity size given engine parameters, that would be very helpful.
Thanks,
Anthony

RE: Air filter capacity/sizing

Anthony,

I don't know if there is any difference in requirements between gas ICE's and diesel ICE's, but for gas I use the following equations to size filters...

Filter Area (A)=(Engine CID*Max RPM)/25,500
Pick a filter element diameter (D)(D=12", 14", etc...)
then
Filter Height (H)=(A/(D*3.14))+0.75

Hope this helps...
