Constraining a detail view callout

Constraining a detail view callout

Constraining a detail view callout

(OP)
Does anybody know of a way to constrain a detail veiw callout to a particualar area on an assembly drawing.  My problem is this, i have an assembly driven by a design table and a detail view of a part on that assembly.  If i replace a part in the assembly that causes the assembly to change in length and thus move the location of the part i'm detailing, the detail view will not move with that particular part, it stays at the location on the sheet were it was created.  I'm running V5R13 P1

RE: Constraining a detail view callout

Mark,

Right button on your detailed view and select View positioning. There you can break the link with the mother view (Position Independly of Reference View) or set a a relative position.

Hora,

The actual view isn't the problem, being a detail view it's position on the sheet isn't linked to the mother view, unlike projection views.  My problem is with the callout for the detail view on the mother view.  I can't find a way for it to stay put on what i want to detail when i change the parts in the assembly via a design table, which in turn change the length of my assembly.  Thanks in advance for any help you can give me.

RE: Constraining a detail view callout

Hi Mark,

Sorry, I missunderstood your problem. Did you fix the first component in your assembly? Maybe here is the problem.

I did fix the first component, but i have to in order to have 0 degrees of freedom.  The assembly i have is the connection between a trailer and a semi truck, known as the kingpin, or fith-wheel.  the position of this pin ranges from 24" off the front fo the trailer to 48".  creating a drawing at 24" the detail callout in circles the pin.  changes out parts to push it back to 48" and then updating the drawing. the detail callout still looks at a position that is 24" from the front, unfortunatly the pin that i want to detail is now at 48".  ideally i would like to connect the callout circle to that geometry so that it follows it around.

to add to my last comment an after thought:  i.e. can i constrain the callout circle to the geometry of the pin?  and if not is there any other method to accomplish this.

Thanks for your patience hora.
