Block

Block

(OP)
Is it possible to attach Block in the drawing to any geometry of part (holes etc) so that at change of part the Block would move also?

RE: Block

Try "Locking view Focus" and placing the block. That would be the only way because a block can not be attached to geometry. I believe this has been discussed before in this Fora.

Unfortunately "Lock View Focus" does not help. I want to create some special symbols like "Dowel Pin Symbol" using Block and attached it to holes in drawing. But if I change placement of holes in the part Blocks doesn't move with them.
Anyone have any ideas?

RE: Block

Then why don't you just use the "Dowel pin symbol" under Annotations instead of making your own? Then it will follow the view no matter where it goes?

There are only two options in "Dowel Pin Symbol", but I want more, for example 1 quarter of circle is black others are white.

RE: Block

Pachem,
Sorry for the delay!!! This is how I have gone about making custom symbols for the company I work for. The file that needs to be edited is Gtol.sym. It is located in SW2004 in this directory:

C:\Program Files\SolidWorks\lang\english

It needs to be opened in WordPad. At the top of the file it gives you directions on how to draw the symbol. My suggestion to you is to find one similar to the one you need to create and cut and paste the info to a new category. You should create a new category for your company symbols. I used a bit of graph paper before I got our symbols right!!! It was a bit of trial and error, but the end result was well worth it. Everytime you change this file SW needs to be retarted to view the result.

btcoutermash,
Thank you! I'll try to play with it.

RE: Block

It is a little tricky, but onece you get the hang of working with it, it does add value!!

RE: Block

Excellent info Brad!
I created:-

*POSX,Position0.02
A,CIRCLE .5,.5,.3
A,LINE .1,.5,.9,.5
A,LINE .5,.1,.5,.9
A,LINE 0,0,0,1
A,LINE 0,0,4.5,0
A,LINE 0,1,4.5,1
A,LINE 1,0,1,1
A,LINE 4.5,0,4.5,1
A,CIRCLE 1.5,.5,.3
A,LINE 1.4,.1,1.7,.9
A,TEXT 3.2,0.5,0.02

Which can be put into a hole table cell for jig bored holes.

Is it possible to network my modified Gtol.sym?

RE: Block

You could copy the file to all other user systems. There is no way to network it. I think this file is hard coded into SW.

From what I know it is hard wired as you said. We used a self executing zip file that we sent to all of our users. This seemed to work well enough.
