Steel Plate Fatigue

Steel Plate Fatigue

Does anyone know the high-cycle low-stress fatigue limit for Bethstar 80, preferably R=0.  A S-N curve would be especially nice.
TIA

RE: Steel Plate Fatigue

Bethstar 80 sounds like a trade name.  Is there an ASTM designation for this material?

RE: Steel Plate Fatigue

SteveBraune;
The BethStar 80 meets the requirements of ASTM A656, Type 7 plate, supplied by Bethlehem Lukens Plate. The 80 refers to 80 Ksi minimum yield strength.

Flesh;
The best information I could find at the moment regarding fatigue data is a file download from the following web site;

intlsteel.com/PDFs/products/bethstar.pdf

If you download this file, it does contain fatigue data for a specified thickness of the BethStar 80 plate.

SteveBraune: Just as metengr said; ASTM A656 Gr. 80.

Metengr: Thanks but that file has LCF only. I really need HCF.

RE: Steel Plate Fatigue

Not sure why you would need HCF data for this type of plate. The application for most high strength and toughness plates is typically for LCF service conditions, where you have thermal or pressure cycles (less than 10,000 cycles). I would suggest you contact ISG directly, or whomever now owns ISG, for HCF data. They may have performed such testing and did not publish it.

It (ISG) will now be called Mittal Steel Co.  Right, its not LCF service condition; it will be formed into a support bracket subjected to repeated loading.
