Is token ring really dead?

RE: Is token ring really dead?

Yes I think so. As fast ethernet became more and more inexpensive many users (companies) changed to fast ethernet. The speed is much higher. I haven't seen a new Tokenring Installation since years.

RE: Is token ring really dead?

Haven't seen token ring for ages(I do not even think these days token ring architecture existed :)), fast ethernet is popular these days, which has been a boon to networking world, my query is when is the NEXT GENERATION Network card coming in the market which would dominate even the fast ethernet? I hope we would be able to design something else now :).

Greetings,
Rekha Sharma

RE: Is token ring really dead?

I have a customer that was solid TR and is currently replacing it all with fast ethernet throughout, which is a large manufacturer on a campus-like site.  I do still have one customer hanging in there with TR, though many new specialized systems are being installed as fast ethernet.
