VHB-like tape, 1/8" thick, for LSE plastics?

VHB-like tape, 1/8" thick, for LSE plastics?

(OP)
Hi all,

I'm looking for a double-sided foam mounting tape, closed-cell, for exterior use.  The adhesive must adhere well to low surface energy plastics.  3M has such a tape, but its maximum available thickness is .045".  I'm looking for 1/8" thick.  Does anyone know of such a tape?

David

Could you use 3 layers of the VHB tape? Or a VHB sandwich with .035" material as the filler?

Dave,

3M reps showed me a tape awhile back that was intended for use in sticking together molded polyethylene/polypropylene parts.  It was essentially a souped-up VHB formulation in a foamed product (yes, they "foamed" the adhesive).  Can't recall what the heck it was called, but you should be able to find the stuff on their website.  It's pretty expensive from what I remember, but looked like it would seal damn near anything (I was looking at using it for sealing aluminum tanks, to replace MIG welding.  The bond strength was there, but it couldn't quite compete on cost).

I have seen an 80mil VHB available at Uline
