Need remote temperature measurement with dial meter display

Need remote temperature measurement with dial meter display

(OP)
Need a method to measure temperature remotely and display on a dial type meter. We presently use remote reading vapor actuated dial thermometers, which use a capillary tube. These work well, but the machines they are mounted on are broken into sections for shipping. Presently the thermometers are mounted on a section, so that it is not necessary to disconnect the capillary. We want to panel mount the temperature gauges in a central location, and 20 foot long capillaries that would need reconnecting are problematic. Would like to use RTDs, thermocouples, or whatever works, but our industry wants a dial display. How can I do this? What manufactures have this type of temperature gauge?

Depending on your application, you'll want to include consideration of possible failure modes (detection and display).

Cross posting is not a good idea. This post sounds like one I replied to yesterday.

Have you tried using an AD590 ? This device is made by Analog Devices and outputs one micro-amp per one degree Kelvin. That means at 25 degrees C or 298 degrees Kelvin the device will pass 298 micro-amps d.c. This will be almost one third of full scale deflection on a 1mA dial type meter. Other full scale deflection meters can be used or a simple digital multimeter set to the milliamp range will give an easy to read digital display.

If you are reading the temp in Centigrade, You might want to take a look at the National LM35DZ.    It outputs 10mv/0C directly and has a wide input voltage range.
The LM34 is for F scale.
We have been using these for several years and have as yet never had a failure of one. (our good look I guess) We even have some that are potted into electronics assemblys.

Howdy,

Got some very nice analog metering for temp at Omega
