RE: Pro/engineer WildFire on dual-processor machine ???
Dual processor and Hyper-threaded machines do not directly improve the performance of Pro/E. We tested a few HP Workstations last August, and found that there was no significant improvement in Pro/E's performance.
There was an improvement in the performance of other programs running at the same time as Pro/E, however. Web browsing, e-mail clients and other programs ran as though Pro/E was not running at all. Also, we found that switching between applications was less likely to cause system lag.
I may be wrong on this - There might be a way to allow Pro/E to utilize this additional power. I did not run any benchmarks on the machines due to the short span of time that I had them.
Can't speak for UNIX/Linux. One good thing to note though, is that there is no 2 GB cap on RAM when using either of these platforms.
