Best material for a refrigeration compressor tank

I want to know which is the best material for an oil tank in a screw refrigeration compressor that uses ammonia as refrigerant in order to avoid corrosion and oxidation inside the oil tank.
Thanks

RE: Best material for a refrigeration compressor tank

Considering the lubrication requirements for any high performance compressor system, I would give serious consideration to  AISI Type 304L stainless steel for the lubricating oil reservoir tank. The 304L material would not result in iron contamination of your lubricating oil during off periods. You could consider a carbon steel tank, but I would be concerned with oil cleanliness, where the ingress of moisture could result in corrosion on the ID surface of the tank.

I would presume that you will have a lubricating oil separator and properly sized cooler to remove ammonia refrigerant, and a micron filter on the lubricating oil supply system.

Thanks Metengr!
How many microns do you recommend for the filter?
