Need remote temperature measurement with analog meter display

Need remote temperature measurement with analog meter display

(OP)
Need a method to measure temperature remotely and display on an analog meter. We presently use remote reading vapor actuated dial thermometers, which use a capillary tube. These work well, but the machines they are mounted on are broken into sections for shipping. Presently the thermometers are mounted on a section, so that it is not necessary to disconnect the capillary. We want to panel mount the temperature gauges in a central location, and 20 foot long capillaries that would need reconnecting are problematic. Would like to use RTDs, thermocouples, or whatever works, but our industry wants an analog meter (dial type) display. How can I do this? What manufactures have this type of temperature gauge?

RE: Need remote temperature measurement with analog meter display

Analog is still available.  Look at Ronan, Minco, Omega for starters.

RE: Need remote temperature measurement with analog meter display

Fairly simple it sounds like. Need to figure out temp range and accuracy to determine sensor technology (RTD, Thermocouple with type, etc). Most displays will work with anyone of the sensor types but you will want to verify this with whatever display and sensor you pick.
Many mfgs make dial gauges that appear analog but are actually digital displays (the needle is digital). Another mfg is Weshler.

What is the temperature range (min/max) and the required accuracy ?

Correction: Weschler is the proper spelling. www.weschler.com

Min/max is 100F/200F. Accuracy of plus/minus 3F. Minor display increments of 2F.

RE: Need remote temperature measurement with analog meter display

I would suggest the MAXIM's MAX6613 with an op-amp
and any analog meter as display. It needs power supply
which can be very cheap if the whole circuit can be under line voltage, else it needs a cheap transformer.

How many do you need?

There are 4-20mA transducers available for RTDs (and for almost any sensors) as shown in one of the examples in the attached link..

Use that with a 4-20mA analog display and you should be all set.
