We want to archive current issues of our drawings on CD. We can find no way to break the link between the drawing and the part other than saving as a tif file.

If this is so, is there a way to batch save our drawings to tiff files.

Your best bet would be to use the Task Scheduler to save to the eDrawing format. The eDrawings will not be associative to the model, but will still retain the ability to shade, rotate, explode, etc, without the overhead of a full set of modelled parts.
