kW calculation

(OP)
I am trying to comfirm the kW useage of a 3 phase system.

Each leg is 280 volts drawing 1300 amps.

Volts = 1.732 * 280 =485

P = (1.732 * 485 * 1300 *.9)1000 = 982.8 kW

Is this correct?

RE: kW calculation

If your Power Factor is 0.9 and the "leg voltage" is line to neutral voltage, your calculation is correct.

RE: kW calculation

Another way of expressing that is that each phase is using p.f. * Current * Voltage (L-N),
so (if current is balanced) three phases are using:
Power(W)= 3 * p.f. * Current * Voltage (L-N)
Power(VA)= 3 * Current * Voltage (L-N)

RE: kW calculation

yes
