Hello,

I'm working on a research project developing a cost estimation tool. I'm trying to find data on manhour rates, costs, etc. in the production of Surface Warships larger than patrol boats.

Does anyone know where I can source such information.

Thanks

Martech

Sorry the header should have read man-hour rates in the Naval Construction industry.

The Maritime Administration of the Department of Transportation publishes shipbuilding labor rates for worldwide shipbuilding industry.

Clair,

Thanks for your help - I don't want to appear ignorant, but is the Department of Transportation a US institution?

I advise the UK Environment Agency on issues relating to the decommissioning of offshore structures, which is nice.

Claire,

Hello again - I've looked at the USDT web site under the maritme administration section and I can't find any reference to the man-hours. Is it possible that such information is only available to US citizens?

To be more specific - I'm trying to develop a cost estimating system for Military vessels so I need the costs on a per ship basis. Any suggestions?

The Maritime Administaration publishes data on worldwide shipbuilding costs. It is available to everyone perhaps for a small fee. I suggest you e-mail them and ask for name of publication.

It you are doing research in ship costs, you may wish to get a copy of "Marine Engineering Economics and Cost Analysis" by Hunt and Butman, Cornell Maritime Press, Centreville, Maryland. You can find it on Amazon.com.

The U.S. Navy has this type of specific information which is generally available to those parties involved in the construction/repair/conversion of surface ships.

You should contact the Public Information Officer at the Naval Surface Warfare Center in Bethesda Maryland. They have a web site and you can go from there......
