Aluminum Construction Standards

(OP)
Does anyone know of sites with some standard aluminum construction details?

Due to the potential for high winds, the state I work in is requiring more detailed structural information from contractors who put up residential aluminum carports, screened enclosures and small additions. I have had several requests from local contractors for such details, but have not found a good source.

RE: Aluminum Construction Standards

If you are refering to light frame tube metal, the resources may be limited and any sources should post.

For light frame steel components and details see

RE: Aluminum Construction Standards

I am sizing the top chord of 2 trusses used as the sides of a walkway spanning 50 feet. The proposed material is 1/8" wall x 3" sq aluminum tubing 6061T6. The trusses are 42" high, 48" apart and the ramp design load is 100 lbs per square foot. The walkway on the ramp is between the bottom rails of the side trusses. The top cord of the trusses are used as handrails.

Obviously the bottom chord is well braced but the only lateral support of the top rail is from the braces inside the trusses which are also of the same material.

Does anyone have any suggestions for the calculation used to determine the proper size of the top rail?

RE: Aluminum Construction Standards

I designed a 50' pedestrian bridge accross a campus creek
& ended up with a triangular brace 6'oc perpendicular to the top rail and on the outside of the walkway (just an idea if they can live with the aesthetics).
