Hi,

Could anyone give me an idea how the "Sound Quality" of a car is assessed?

SQ mostly applies to powertrain noise. There are many SAE papers on this, have you read them?

Basically it is a question of deciding whether the engine sounds like you want it to. You can use your ears, or juries, or you can invent a theory and see if it helps with an objective measurement.

Typically SQ of reasonably refined engine installations can be improved significantly by fitting a crankshaft bending damper.
