Blind sub for NAS623?

Blind sub for NAS623?

Blind sub for NAS623?

(OP)
Does anyone have a reference or data that specifies a suitable blind fastener to replace a NAS623 screws?

My SRM and other reference material does not address this problem.

Assume tension load is a factor.

TIA

RE: Blind sub for NAS623?

Rob130...

I suspect this blind fastener does not exist.

No blind-bolts [BB] I'm aware of will match the theoretical tension capability of NAS623 [160-KSI] for the same diameter... but many BBs can easily exceed the NAS623 single & double shear capability. Although these higher shear strength BBs do exist, they ALL suffer from reduced tension capability... for obvious reasons. Perhaps a next-larger-diameter MS90354 would work in Your application. The larger diameter part would get fairly close to the theoretical tension strength of the NAS623?!?!

Note: just a guess... MOST short-thread screws [IE: NAS623] are used for shear applications in class 1 or 2 holes: and tension is a relatively small factor. I suspect this is Your case, if You are dealing with an "older" design. If not, sorry...

Will, thanks for the input, we determined that tension was not a factor in this case and will use the MS90354 blind bolt due to access problems.

1950's design as you correctly guessed.

Thanks, ROb
